Well, I have made it to 18 months, people. I am quite please w/ myself. In the past 6 months, I have seen my locs go thru quite a few changes. All for the good no doubt. I have learned even more about my treasured locs. My routine is none.... :o) I wash, I condition, I oil, I spritz, I roll, I twist, I do whatever, whenever.. I got away from the whole I need to retwist every 2 weeks or 3 weeks mindset a while back. If i go 3 months and not twist, oh well, my locs will survive. If I twist after 2 weeks, oh well, my locs will survive. I really do feel at freedom w/ myself and my hurr. >o) I have broken away from the bondage of rolling..:o) That was almost like twisting for me. If I roll oh well. If I don't oh well. As long as my head don't stink cause I aint washed it in what, how long? I am good to go! I was reading over some posts on a hair site and the question was raised aGAIN about how long you should wait before washing your locs.... At first I was sitting in front of my computer talking to the poster like this, "What do you mean? How long is it before you wash your butt? Thats an everyday thang, I hope. Can't go around being all funk mo and stuff, so you better start washing your hair before it starts stanking!" I was going at it for real. Then I stopped. In the beginning, I too, wanted a perfect head of locs. I didnt want to do anything that would disturb the process of my hair locking. I never asked on any boards or anything, but privately, I wanted to know the same thing..... It's a degree of excitement for some and they simply want to make sure everything is perfect. Thats it. I had to really realize that everybody is different and everybody is going to loc their hair for different reasons, and everybody is going to maintain their locs locs differently, and everybody is everybody.... Pretty much thats it in a nutshell. So, I openly apologize for fussing at the computer about how long to go in between washing one's locs. Just take this simple advice. Wash as much as you want, whenever you want. Just be sure you don't walk around with sour hair. That is just uuuuuuugggggh. However, from my experience I will say this: hair that is in the process of matting and condensing to eventually become locs, looooooooooves water.. :o) Peace People!
