Now THAT"S very attractive, WTH???

Beauty in the straight state....LOL

Beauty in the natural state...... I LOVE ME!

Ok, today is Friday. Last night, I did my regular weekly wash routine and simply didnt feel like rolling my hair or anything. So I greased, yes greased my scalp, pulled it back and put on a skully. When I went to bed last night my intent was to let my hair be until next Thursday which is November 1. Two days prior to my birthday. So what did I do? I pulled out one of my old wigs, slapped it on and went to work. It is one of my straighty ones and quite honestly I aint feeling the look cause I have NOT had straight hair for like what 3 yrs or so now. I rocked that straighty though.. :o) But anyway, I am in my office minding my business and one of my coworkers happen to come by my door and she does a uturn. These are her exact words, "I like your hair. Now THAT is very attractive." Mind you the emphasis is on THAT. I kinda looked at her for a moment and then said thanks. WTH? Are you trying to say that my hair otherwise is NOT attractive? It kinda took me back, ya know. Mind you she is like 70+ and really needs to be at home somewhere, so it's not like I was going to give her the usual smartness that normally comes out of my mouth. It's funny how people equate straight w/ attractive. I dunno. Am I mad, nah, cause everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I just know that I am attractive in whatever way I wear my hair. Its an esteem thing you know. I have lots of it. Enough for the next one that seems to NOT have any. Me loves me, and that in my opinion, is really all that matters.... Anyway, a few minutes later she comes back and says, "I didnt upset you did I with saying that about your hair?" I told her just like this, "You should have known me long enough by now to know that I really don't care what people think. Everybody has an opinion." (I have been here 10 yrs). She says, " I think its nice how you change up. I have to always have the same day in and day out." I simply smile and say Miss blankety blank, it's all good.
Happy Friday, ya'll!

November 2, National Blackout Day

This "boycott" is not just aimed at African Americans, but ALL people who are for Justice! So contrary to what race you are, let us show that we do have Economic Power in this country. Everyone supported the march on Jena, lets also support the Nov. 2 Blackout, let us also support the March on Washington, November 16, 2007.

November 2, 2007

National BlackOut Day

What: A National Blackout that is necessary for African Americans, and is long over due. Especially with all the present injustices that are being allowedand accepted in America right now. Until we have federal legislation regarding hate crimes, as African Americans, we need to band together to show our "Economic Power" by refusing to spend ANY money from fast food restaurants to gas.

Why: As African Americans we spend an estimated 715 billion dollars a year, and if we were to stop spending for one day that is 2 billion dollar that will not in the system. However we ask that you don’t make a mad dash to the stores days prior or the days following. If the stores have a major increase in sales right before or right after the Blackout than we will create the impact we need.

When: Friday, November 2, 2007

Warren Ballentine "The People’s Attorney" and radio Truth Fighter is calling for a National Blackout throughout America. Not only for this one day, but the week leading up to November 2. If we stock up on supplies that we need NOW, take our lunch to work the week leading up to November 2, the one day Blackout will ultimately lead into a 4 day Blackout.

For further information please tune your radios to 750AM WAUG Mon-Fri, 10am to 1pm for the Truth Fighter himself, Warren Ballentine. Or log on to http://thetruthfighters.blogspot.com

Coming into my own....

Chewy looking bottom layer. I don't know what it is up w/ that..If anyone can help me out, please do. just a little cartoon fun. Showing me wearing my locs unstyled(no curls)
no curls from the side. I can still see some of the twist pattern.. Amazing. Looks like I just started, but some of these puppies were three combined into one.. :o)
Showing some color thats all. I ADORE the fullness of my lips! *smooches*
Just me; coming into my own.. Still no curls, and back to my earthtones... :o)

Well, I really feel like I am coming into my own so to speak. Since starting this road trip to loc-dome I have absolutely refused to wear my hair umanipulated, meaning w/ out curls, pinned up something. Well, my precious daughter informed me that my hair looks good, but people can't really tell they are locs and its like I am trying to hide the fact that I am growing locs. Not like I really care about what people think, but I really was putting a LOT of time into rolling and making sure the curls were justso. Soooo, I listened to my precious babay girl and decided to give it a go. So for 2 weeks now I have worn my hair w/out any styling... How do I feel about it? Its growing on me. Didnt realize how dependent I was on the curls until I decided to just leave them alone for a minute. Also decided to wear a few more colors on my face instead of ALWAYS wearing my routine brown/beige/earthtone colors. Colors on my lips seems to make them HUGER (nice word) than what they already are, but you know what? I love the fullness of my lips. As the hubby says they are sexy... Ahhhh yes. But I do see a difference between the colors and the earth tones.... I think I will stick with my earth tones, but I will definitely do more of the color thing. Another observation: my bottom layer of locs look "chewy". (check out the 1st picture) Do you think it is the way I tie my hair up, or what? Do you think over a period of time they will smooth out? Yet another observation:The combined ones are condensing just like they did before. I do know that I am having some budding going on as well. Interesting. and one more thing that I have done.. I cut the majority of my ends after I combined and retwisted. Believe it or not it did my hair a WORLD of good. I think this is like the 2nd time I have cut those wispy ends, so I think it is something that is going to just be with me throughout this trip. i don't think I'll be cutting again.Right about now I am pleased. I am glad that I combined my locs before i got too far down the road and starting losing some. In a sense it feels like I have started over, but believe me it is all good.

What's been going on?

So me and a girlfriend went to go see Why Did I get Married.. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Going to go back and see it again, this time w/ the hubby. I think he'll appreciate it. Wasnt what I thought it was going to be, but I enjoyed it.

Lost a classmate last week and attended her funeral services. Put it into perspective that I am really aging. I'm not 20 anymore, heck 25.. What I thought to be old when I was young (40's) is really knocking on my door. I never think about it until someone passes away or one of my classmates has a baby. Heck, my kids are and are almost grown, with the exception of my 17 month old. (He snuck up on us) One of my old buddies told me that she had breast cancer about 2 yrs ago and it has come back. Of course she got all over my butt because I don't keep in touch w/ anyone. Well, its probably nothing now, but back when, I ended my HS buddy days cause of a broken heart. I dont want to run into him or anybody that is connected to him. Hell, I don't even know if he is still in the area... duh...At a time, it was just too painful to even go back and see of the people that KNEW I was being played and they just snicked and grinned in my face.... Well, I take that back, they did try to tell me, I was just too BLIND to see it myself. Didnt want to believe or accept... *sighing* Oh well, life definitely goes on and you definitely meet new people and if love is meant for you IT will find you. After being with my man for nearly 20 yrs I do believe Love found me... :o) If that wouldnt have happened eons ago I would not have met my soulmate. :o) So I guess I need to be giving dude a big ole High 5 for making a fool outta me, kickin me to the curb, and allowing me to move on with my life. Dang, I could be unhappy right about now... Thanks dude!

My babies(locs) are doing well. Still holding on.... I am still happy with my combining decision. I think right about now I feel better about my hair than I did in the very beginning. Should have gone w/ my instinct and just 2st....At any rate it is all good and I think I am finally coming into my own ..:o)

Always doing sumtin

Went out to the "club" on Saturday night and REAKED unbelieveably of SMOKE! My pure tee draws and bra smelled like smoke! So, if that be the case with my clothes, can you imagine what my hair smelled like? You don't even want to know... Washed the heck out of it. Know we have a water restriction, but I was like I dont give a rats azz, I'm washing the smell outta my hair! When I finished it smelled quite citrusy.. :o) An experience I dont really care to go back and talk about. Maybe later.... :o)

Challenge no mo....

I said BUMP the twistless challenge! Call it weak, or whateva. I started to cut my locs last night. For real. I got the scissors, positioned my locs and honestly got ready to whack em.... Instead, I washed em(my regular weekly routine), and proceeded to retwist my roots. Yep, sho did. i retwisted my roots, and loved every single cotton pickin minute of it! So now I am officially OUT of my funk.. :o)

In a funk.....

Well, I have made it to 8 months of my journey! I am so proud of myself... When I first started out I never would have thought seriously that I would have made it this far. I think I have had maybe one serious setback at like 5 months where I started having loc envy and I picked out some locs calling myself starting over. Other than that. I have been ok. As you know, I combined quite a few right before the 28th and now I kinda sorta feel in a funk about my locs! I think I am getting very anxious. I'm just ready for mine to loc and do whatever! I have thinking about getting them cut in the bob style that I loooooove so much. they would kinda be like Max's on Living Single(when it was on). My husband says that I remind him of her a lot... She was crazy. I had forgotten all about her and that hairstyle until I was watching some reruns one day. I was like, dang I have been wearing my hair like hers! Anyway, I'm not all that crazy about length right now. I just want them boogers to be on a serious loc down! I have a buddy who has been growing her tresses for 12 yrs! Talk about beautiful! She never wears them down cause they are so long! Her son and her daughter are also loced. They are 7 and 9. Simply beautiful.. I have loc envy when I look at hers for real... Hers are the traditional locs.. I look at her locs and be like loc love for real.... Anyhoo, I havent done too much to mine, but I have done enough. I should have started them w/2st, but didnt. Am I going to start over, i dont think so. I just keep holding on the the thought that there are many out there who started way before me and they may have felt the way I feel and stuck it out. The end result will be total loc bliss for sure. Just think in 4 short months I will have celebrated one year of trying to get this loc thing straight. Big kudos to me.... So with all of that said, I'm kinda in a funk, thus the title, but, I am trying to overcome. I need some encouragement people. Hit a sista up w/ some love! I think I might just go until the end of the year and not twist... I dunno. I love the manicured look, but I love the full look too. I'm torn, but I know I gotta leave my babies be. Too much styling is going to regret some things down the road. I feel it, so I gotta go w/ my gut feeling.... It's all good... Thats my rant and my rave for the day. Check ya later...
